Region 3 of the NJCAA announced its yearly awards today.
The SUNY Broome athletic department was recognized with the 2024-25 NJCAA Region 3 Community Service Award, joining the Hudson Valley Community College athletic department as recipients of this year's honor. 2024-25 marks the first time that SUNY Broome has been acknowledged with the award.
According to the official criteria for this award, Region 3 members are eligible to be recognized with the Region 3 Community Service Award if the number of community service events in which the department participates is at least equal to the number of sports offerings, with a minimum of five events.
SUNY Broome Athletics offers 12 sports, and an impressive year of community service saw the department participate in more than 12 service-based events, allowing the department to be eligible for the recognition.
Community service initiatives in which the athletic department participated in 2024-25 included:
- Astor Rice Foundation Thursday Family Nights
- SUNY Broome student move-in day
- Hornet Hope Center Challenge
- The Giving of the Toys Ceremony
- Mental Health Month
- Johnson City HS Track & Field meet staffing
