Jon is originally from Toronto, Ohio and now resides in Binghamton, NY with his wife Phyllis. He graduated from Ohio University and became certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC). Jon is also presently certified by the New York State Athletic Trainers’ Association (NYSATA) and the University of the State of New York Education Department Office of the Professions. He has been practicing athletic training for many years at various levels. Including the Sports Medicine staff at Ohio University, the Sports Medicine Department at Lourdes Hospital, and eighteen years in professional hockey, with various organizations and teams such as the Cleveland Barons, Hartford Whalers, Washington Capitals and New York Rangers (twice), but mostly with the Binghamton Whalers and Rangers Hockey Teams. Since 2001, Jon has been the Assistant Director of Athletics and Certified Athletic Trainer at SUNY Broome Community College. He has been recognized for many achievements over the years such as: having the privilege of being the first Certified Athletic Trainer to have his name on the International Hockey League Turner Cup as a member of the professional Toledo Goaldiggers Hockey Team. Jon was inducted into the Toronto High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He received the Distinguished Service Award to Athletics by the NYS Athletic Administrators Association. Jon received the MERIT OF CITATION for saving a life providing CPR from the American Legion Post 1645 in Binghamton, NY. He was inducted into the 2004 Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame. Jon was the recipient of the NJCAA Region lll Athletic Trainer of the Year Award for 2017-18. It was the first such award issued in NJCAA Region lll. Most recently, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine selected Jon as the 2019 Head Athletic Trainer of the Year Award in the Community College/NJCAA setting.
