Ice Hockey Opens Up At Home With A Win

The SUNY Broome hockey team opened up their season with a 4-2 victory at home Saturday afternoon against the LeMoyne College Club team. The Hornets led 1-0 after the first period on a goal scored by freshman forward Austin Bradish (Beekmantown, NY/Beekmantown). Lemoyne battled back in the second period to take a 2-1 lead.  Nicholas Frati (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) opened the scoring in the third period for the hornets scoring an unassisted shorthanded goal.  Moments later Cory Della Stua (Pittsford, NY/Rush-Henrietta) scored another shorthanded goal for the Hornets on an assist from Bradish.  Bradish would finish off the scoring for the Hornets with his second goal of the game on a pass from Della Stua who out skated a Lemoyne defenseman to negate an icing call.  Freshmen Goaltenders Dustin Plumadore (Plattsburgh, NY/Beekmantown) and Kyle Fragola (Bellmore, NY/Mepham) split the game in net, Plumadore played the first 2 periods stopping 20 of 22 shots and Fragola earned the victory stopping all 12 Lemoyne's shots in the third period.

The Hornets are at home again on Wednesday against region III rival Hudson Valley at 7:00 p.m.
