Hockey Team Pulls Ahead Late

The SUNY Broome ice hockey team scored two goals in the third period for the 6-4 win against the Elmira College JVs on their home ice Saturday afternoon. Nicholas Frati opened the scoring 31 seconds into the game with assists going to Michael Feranti and Zach Neferis.  Frati would score his second of the game midway through the period on passes from Ferranti and Wayne Buerkle.  Elmira would battle back to tie the game on two goals late in the first period.

Frati struck again scoring an unassisted short handed goal for the hat trick five minutes into the 2nd period. The Hornets would scored their second goal of the period when Matthew Evans beat the Elmira defenseman to negate an icing call and set up Josh Maus for the goal. Andrew Meeker also assisted on Maus's goal. Elmira immediately answered back scoring two quick goals to tie the game.
The game remained tied for most of the third period until Neferis scored the eventual game winner on a pass from Meeker. Ferranti would seal the victory scoring the sixth goal with assists going to Zachary Carapellatti and Cory Della StuaKyle Fragola played another strong game in goal for the Hornets stopping 26 of 30 Elmira shots to earn his third victory of the season.


The Hornets improved to 4-1 and travel to Union College on Sunday.
