Ice Hockey Picks Up Fifth Win

The Hornets defeated Region III rival Mohawk Valley 5-4 on Wednesday night in Utica. Mohawk Valley jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first period. The Hornet power play came to life in the second period, Tyler Zweig (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) opened up the scoring for the Hornets deflecting in a Cory Della Stua (Pittsford, NY/Rush-Henrietta) shot and Austin Bradish (Beekmantown, NY/Beekmantown) also assisted on the goal.  Michael Feranti (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Valley) scored his first of two power play goals to take the lead on an assist from Wayne Buerkle (Cortland, NY/McGraw) and Zach Neferis (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City). Feranti's second power play goal came minutes later on an assist from Neferis and Adam Sokol (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott).  The fourth Hornet goal of the period came when Neferis buried a rebound off of a Zachary Carapellatti (Portville, NY/Portville) shot.  The power play struck again when Della Stua scored on a shot from the point on an assist from Alex Whitehair (Hilton, NY/Hilton).

The Hawks battled back in the third period scoring 3 goals but the Hornets managed to hold them off to earn their 5th win of the season. 
Kyle Fragola (Bellmore, NY/Mephan) faced 49 shots on goal and stopped 45 of them.

The Hornets travel to Troy, NY on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. face-off against the Vikings from Hudson Valley CC.
