Broome traveled to Corning on Tuesday for a doubleheader against the Red Barons and lost game one by a score of 9-4 before taking game two from the host team, 8-3. The doubleheader was originally scheduled as a home contest but was moved to Corning CC due to field conditions and impending weather. The field conditions improved on Corning's turf field but the weather remained nasty with rain and hail throughout the games.
The opener started off well for the Hornets as they were able to push across a run in the top of the first on a two-out single to left off the bat of Joseph Miller scoring Torin Lawrence. The lead was short lived for the Hornets as the Red Barons went on to score nine unanswered runs due to timely hitting by the hosts coupled with untimely errors by the visitors. Broome plated three more runs late in the game but the damage was already done.
The nightcap showed a different side of the Hornets as they scored early and were able to maintain their lead through out the game. Broome smashed thirteen hits in the game, led by Miller's 4-4 showing at the plate. Dante Burns added his second homerun of the year, and Thomas Ricci, Matthew Meleski and Anthony Benson all had multi hits in the game. Lawrence went five strong innings on the mound only giving up one earned run on two hits and hitting a season high ten strike outs. Broome went to 4-24 with the split and Corning went to 2-28.
The Hornets look to improve this Thursday when they travel to Syracuse to play on another turf field against the Lazers from Onondaga, with the first game scheduled for a 2:00 P.M. start and the second game to follow.
