Men Suffer First Loss

The men's basketball team suffered their first defeat of the season Friday night at SUNY Delhi 91-78. The Hornets started off slow and fell behind by 22 points in the first half, 40-18, with just under 6 minutes remaining before going on a 21-8 run to cut into the Broncos lead. Reserves Matthew Bowman (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and Matthew Gaydorus (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) were instrumental in that run to send the visitors into the locker room at the half down 48-39.

The second half was played more evenly with The Hornets getting within 7 but they could not overcome a strong shooting performance from The Broncos who nailed eleven 3-pointers.

Broome was led in scoring by Chris Smith (Queens, NY/Newtown) who finished with 19 points including a 10-10 showing at the charity stripe, 4 boards and 4 assists, James Saunders (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) finished with 17 points, William Mason (Rochester, NY/James Monroe) had 15 points and 7 boards and Shameek Brown (Brooklyn, NY/Boys & Girls) came off the bench for 14 points.

The Hornets travel to Utica on Sunday for a 2:00 P.M. Region III contest against Mohawk Valley CC.
