Men's Basketball Team Surge In Second Half

The Hornets got back to their winning ways on Tuesday after dropping two straight with an 80-66 victory on the road at Columbia-Greene CC. On Sunday the Hornets lost 72-67 to Mohawk Valley CC.  Broome trailed in the first half by as much as 12 points and went into the break down 38-32. The shooting of Dashown Nelson (Brooklyn, NY/HS of Telecommunication Arts & Technology) helped keep them close as he finished the first half with 16 points including three 3-pointers. Nelson ended up with a game high 24 points on the night.

The second half was played close for a few minutes but the Hornets (5-2) began to pull away with the help of solid defense and patience against the Twins 2-3 zone. Broome outscored the Columbia-Greene (3-4), 48-28 in the second half. That run was sparked by by reserves Devin Mattioli (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) with 6 points and 3 assists and Muhamed Toure (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) who finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Other key contributors for the Hornets were William Mason (Rochester, NY/James Monroe) with 15 points, 8 boards and Chris Smith (Queens, NY/Newtown) added 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Broome will host North Country CC (6-1) this Saturday at 3:00 P.M. and turn around on Sunday to host Clinton CC (1-3) scheduled for a 2:00 P.M. tip-off.
