Men Rebound From Loss

Men Rebound From Loss

The men's basketball team rebounded from Sunday's loss to Mohawk with an exciting 69-66 win over Columbia-Greene on Tuesday night. Basketball is a game of runs, as was the case in Broome's home victory over the Twins. The visitors came out of the gate shooting the ball well to take an early lead, led by Aaron Sanders who made his first 3 shots and finished with a game high 19 points. But Broome would quickly strike back and the lead would change many times over the next 12 minutes. Then with just under 4 minutes left in the half, the Hornets put their foot on the gas to take a 9 point lead into halftime, 30-21.

The pace quickened in the second half as both teams came out with energy and after 3 minutes the score remained the same. Columbia-Greene would make the next run and eventually took over the lead with under 4 minutes to play. Big defensive plays were made by the Hornets over the next few minutes that led to positive outcomes on the offensive end. Terry Solomon would take a charge. Sean Webb would force a travel in the back court which gave Broome the ball under their own basket. Then after Hornet turnovers that looked like they would turn into easy baskets for the Twins, Anthony McNeil made a huge chase down block that led to a fast break the other way, and Corey Bryant would sprint back to get in position to take another big charge. Solomon and Webb both hit big free throws down the stretch to hold the lead, and a last chance 3 at the buzzer would fall short for the Twins.

McNeil would top Hornet's scorers with 17 points and 7 rebounds, Lucas Iacobucci continued shooting the ball well and finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds (6 offensive). Webb had 12 points on 6-7 free throws and 3 assists. Bryant contributed 10 points and a game high 9 boards and Adolphus Butts would add 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals to his 4 points.

The Hornets travel up North this weekend for another Saturday-Sunday weekend. Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Broome will face North Country CC and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. they will face Clinton CC.
