Men End Road Trip With A Win

Broome men's basketball ended their northern road trip weekend with a strong push to earn a victory at Clinton CC in Plattsburgh on Sunday, 62-61. The game would stay close in the early stages with the lead changing sides multiple times. After a Broome 3-pointer gave them a 2 point lead about halfway through the half, Clinton would respond in a big way, going on a 17-0 tear to take a 15 point lead in just over 6 minutes. The Hornets would get another 3-point shot to break the run and begin a small 7-2 run themselves to end the half down by 10points, 38-28.

The five players that ended the half playing well would start the second half and play the final 20 minutes together. The 10 point lead would jump to 13 early on, 45-32, before those five Broome players would say enough is enough. Led by pressure defense on the Clinton guards from Adolphus Butts and relentless battling down low from Jared Conklin, the Hornets would finish out the game 30-16. The final basket to take a 1 point lead came on a fast break layup by Lucas Iacobucci, assisted by Sean Webb, with under 10 seconds left to play.

The total effort was led by Anthony McNeil, who only saw a brief first half break after catching an elbow in the forehead. He finished with a game high 28 points, going 7-7 from the FT line and 13 rebounds. Iacobucci also finished in double figures with 17, including the go ahead bucket late. Webb would finish with 8 points and a collegiate high 10 assists, none bigger than the last one to Iacobucci for the win. Butts who hounded the opposing PG full court for 20 minutes straight would come out with 5 steals to go with 5 points and Conklin, whose energy was game changing, added 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

SUNY Broome will be on a break until after the Thanksgiving Holiday when they will face off against Davis College on the road Thursday, Dec. 1st.
