Men Fall in Queensbury

Two days after a buzzing beating victory, there would be no late game heroics for the Hornets, as they fell to SUNY Adirondack on the road Saturday afternoon, 71-66. The Timberwolves jumped out early, pushing the lead to 15 points over the first 14 minutes, 30-15. Broome struggled to find a lineup to match up with the inside-outside combination for Adirondack. With about 6 minutes to go, the Hornets started to click and ignited a 21-6 run to tie the score at 36 by the halftime buzzer.

The second half was played very close, but the Hornets never overtook the lead. Back to back layups by Terry Solomon would tie the game at 61, and then again at 63 with just over a minute to play. The Timberwolves would score on their next possession for a 65-63 lead. Broome came up empty on their next possession, and after a quick foul and 2 free throws, they were down 4. Lucas Iacobucci would knock in a three after a timeout to cut the lead to one, 67-66 with 18 seconds to go, but the Hornets were forced to foul Shea Irish, who made the last 2 free throws. He connected twice more to extend the lead back to three. A long 3-pointer would come up short for Broome and 2 more free throws by Irish would put the game out of reach at 5 with 6 seconds remaining.

Hornets scoring was led by Anthony McNeil with 18 points on 11-12 shooting from the free throw line, and he would add 7 rebounds. Corey Bryant was just short of a second straight double-double with 17 points and 9 boards, he would also come up with 4 steals. Sean Webb contributed 12 points, 4 assists and Adolphus Butts added 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals to his 4 points. Iacobucci would also finish in double figures with 11.

SUNY Broome will be off for their winter break until Thursday, January 12th, when they travel to Finger Lakes CC for their MSAC conference opener at 8:00 p.m.
