The men's basketball team dropped their MSAC opener on the road in double-overtime at Finger Lakes CC, 94-88 on Thursday night. Broome started out sluggish as the Lakers jumped to a 7-0 lead, but they wouldn't let the lead grow any larger than 9. It was 12-3 after five minutes of play, and then it was 23-14 with just under seven minutes to go. Over the next five minutes the Hornets went on a 20-7 run to take the lead 34-30, and finish the half up 38-37. The first half run was ignited by hot shooting from Brady Harrington, who shot 5-7 from the field for 11 points, and Anthony McNeil who was aggressive getting to the rim, and shot 5-8 FT, finishing with 9 points.

The next twenty minutes was a back and forth battle, with no team leading by more than 4 points. It took the Hornets some big stops and big shots down the stretch and they made both to tie the game at 69 at the end of regulation. The first OT was more of the same, with both teams scoring 13 points to end tied again, this time at 82. The second OT belonged to the Lakers, outscoring the Hornets 12-6 to finish the game.

Broome was led by McNeil who played 49 minutes, all but 1 of the total 50 minutes played. He finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. Next in scoring was Harrington with 15. Sean Webb added a double-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds and also a team high 5 assists. Adolphus Butts contributed 13 points, including some big 3-pointers to tie the game at the end of regulation, and keep it close in OT. He also added 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Raheim Grant came up 1 rebound short of a double-double in his first collegiate game, finishing with 11 points and 9 boards. Solid games were also turned in by Kenneth Davis with 8 points and 9 boards and Matt Bowman with 9 points and 7 boards.
Broome goes on the road again on Saturday to face off against Tompkins Cortland CC in another MSAC contest at 2pm.
