The Men's Basketball team got back on track Tuesday night with 101-97 Region III road victory at Columbia-Greene CC. Brady Harrington led the way with 22 points, as he came off the bench to score 12 in the first half. He connected on 3 of his 4 three pointers in the half, and at one point scored 8 straight points for Broome to help cut into an 11 point lead for the host team and make it 30-25 with 10 minutes remaining. The Hornets stayed within single digits the rest of the way, with the help of Reginald Vaughan who also had 12 points in the first half, to go into the break down 54-48.
The second half began with back and forth scores and stops, as the Twins remained in the lead for the first 8 minutes. The fourth Harrington 3-pointer brought the Hornets within 1, and sparked an exciting 18-4 run over the next 4 minutes. Tron Smith, Jr. completed 4-4 free throws in the stretch, the last 2 giving Broome their largest lead at 80-71. The Twins closed the gap to within 1 point at 94-93 with 1:38 remaining. On the Hornets next possession they ran down the clock with ball movement and eventually found Lucas Iacobucci in the left corner, who connected on his biggest basket of the game, giving Broome a 4 point lead with just over a minute to play. Smith Jr. would help seal the deal from the FT line, as he finished the game 10-10 from that spot.
Harrington added 6 rebounds to his 22 points, Smith Jr. finished with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals, and Raheim Grant was a steady force down low as he finished with 18 points and 5 boards. Vaughan contributed 17 points and tied for the team high in rebounds with 8, shared with Iacobucci, who also chipped in 9 points, 4 assists and 2 steals of his own. Jared Conklin, who manned the post most of the second half as the starters sat with foul trouble, added 8 points to his 7 boards and 2 blocks.
Broome is back home this weekend as they take on North Country CC this Saturday at 3:00 P.M., and Clinton CC on Sunday at 2:00 P.M.
