Hornets Fall On The Road

The men's basketball team started their season on the road Thursday night with a Region III loss at Schenectady County CC, 83-73.
 
Broome got off to a hot start, hitting four 3 point shots and leading 16-8 after 5 minutes of play.  Reginald Vaughan had 8 points during that stretch. The Hornets largest lead of the first half was 15, at 36-21, with six minutes to play and the first session closed at 46-38, after a buzzer beating jumper by Vaughan. He finished the half with 26 points.
 
Schenectady ramped up their defense in the second 20 minutes and held Broome to 27 total points. The Royals took their first lead at the ten minute mark, 58-56, and the Hornets never took the lead back.
 
Vaughan led four double figure scorers for the visitors with 27 points on 11-18 shooting.  Patrick Buchinsky contributed a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, Ricardo Fernandez added 10 points to go along with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals, and Cameron Snow put in 11 points with 3 assists.  Derrick Simpson was active with 7 points, 6 rebounds (5 offensive), 3 assists and 2 steals.
 
The Hornets are back on the road this weekend for a 5:00 P.M. Saturday-Sunday back-to-back at the Crossover Classic in Jamestown where they will face Jamestown CC and Genessee CC.
