Men Fall In Close Game At Home

Broome player shooting free throw
vs Tompkins Cortland

Broome and Tompkins Cortland engaged in a tight, back and forth battle on Friday night that resulted in a one point MSAC loss for the Hornets, 80-79.  The first half saw many lead changes, and no lead larger than single digits.  It ended with the Panthers up  44-41 going in to the intermission.  Quartus Steika scored 18 of his game high 35 points in the first half to keep the Hornets close.

The Panthers would take the game's first double digit lead midway through the second half, but Broome fought back to keep the game within striking distance.  In the final few minutes, a Hornet run would result in the host team taking a one point lead on Steika's fifth 3-pointer of the game with under 15 seconds to play.  On TC3's next possession they would score after securing a loose ball offensive rebound, leaving Broome down one with six seconds left in the contest.  The Hornets had a shot to win but came up empty on their final possession.

Steika added 10 rebounds to his 35 points for a double-double and also had 3 blocks.  Reginald Vaughan scored 13 points and dished out 7 assists, with 3 steals.  Patrick Buchinsky also had a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards, and Malik Smith scored 12 points and added 7 rebounds of his own.

The Hornets travel to Watertown on Monday to face Jefferson CC at 7:00 P.M. in a MSAC contest.
