Men Drop Two In Crossover Classic

Broome dropped both games in the Crossover Classic, hosted by Corning CC this year, falling to Jamestown CC 71-68 on Saturday evening and Genesee CC 93-59 on Sunday.

On Saturday the Hornets were slowed in the first half by foul trouble, which led to three starters sitting on the bench for most of the 20 minute period and a 10 point deficit at the end of the first half, down 34-24.  The second half was a different story as Broome fought their way back into the game with tough pressure defense that turned into offensive success.  The Hornets would eventually tie the game, and then take a one point lead with under a minute to play.  The lead did not hold up, as Jamestown pulled back ahead with a layup and two free throws on their next two possessions to go up by three.  Broome's last second 3-point attempt to tie the game fell short as the buzzer sounded.

Broome was led in scoring by Christian Sage with 18 points and 3 assists followed by Tron Smith's 16 points and 7 assists.  The defense was anchored by Shane Callaway, who grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked 7 shots, and Fidel Brock who added 3 steals to his 7 points.

On Sunday against the Cougars, the Hornets again had a slow offensive first half in which they scored only 24 points and found themselves down 46-24 to end the half.

The offense started to pick up in the second half for Broome but Genesee continued to roll, scoring one more point in second half than they did in the first, outscoring the Hornets by a score of 47-35.

Broome was led in scoring by Smith with 25 points on 10-19 shooting with 5 threes.  He was the Hornets lone double-figure scorer while Genesee had five players reach that mark.

Broome will travel to Hudson one week from this Tuesday for a 7:00 P.M. tip off against Columbia-Greene CC.
