The men's basketball team was on the road on Wednesday at Cayuga CC, winning a nail-biter in OT, 61-59.
The Hornets started out the game strong defensively, holding Cayuga to only four points in the first five minutes. The defensive effort continued as the Spartans were held to 24 points in the first half and under 60 points for the game. Sophomore forwards Connor Green and Antuan Darden had two blocks a piece as they protected the rim for the Hornets. Sophomore Antonio Maria and freshman Amauri Truax also contributed to the defensive pressure by adding three steals each.
In a physical contest, SUNY Broome did a great job attacking the basket and running the floor in transition. Green led the way for the Hornets with 17 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Darden put together a strong performance as well as he posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Truax had nine points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Maria also scored nine points and collected four rebounds and two assists.
When the battle headed to overtime, the Hornets demonstrated exceptional poise and execution to put the stamp on a tough road win. The Hornets will be back in action on November 13 for a road matchup with Corning CC, scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
