vs Corning CC

The men's basketball team was on the road against a conference opponent in Corning on Wednesday, falling 77-67.

The Hornets move to 1-1 overall and in conference play with the loss, while the Red Barons improve to 3-0 overall and in Mid-State Athletic Conference action.

SUNY Broome held a lead for multiple portions of the first half but allowed a few Corning runs to close the stanza and trailed 36-30 at the break. While the Red Barons extended their lead on multiple occasions in the second, the Hornets found timely rallies to get back in the game and trail by single digits late. The game was never out of reach for SUNY Broome but the comeback effort ultimately fell short.

Sophomore guard Antonio Maria led the way statistically for SUNY Broome with 23 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Maria attacked the basket relentlessly and was able to draw multiple trips to the free-throw line, converting on several of them. Sophomore guard/forward Antuan Darden posted his second straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Darden played heavy minutes for the Hornets and was sound on both ends of the floor, also adding two monster blocks, a steal, and an assist. Sophomore forward Connor Green contributed eight points and dominated the boards with 13 rebounds.

SUNY Broome shot 46.6% from the field but was just 1-10 from three-point range and 48.0% from the charity stripe. Corning shot the ball at a 41.9% clip from the field and a 50.0% clip from the free-throw line. The Hornets committed 18 turnovers in the loss.

SUNY Broome is back in action on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off at SUNY Adirondack.
