Ice Hockey Drops Home Opener

The hockey team opened up Wednesday night against Hudson Valley CC at the SUNY Broome Ice Center and fell 10-4. Freshman Samuel Cammilleri out of Rochester led the Hornets with two goals and an assist, sophomore Ryan Norris from Rochester added a goal and an assist and Binghamton native Sean Marean chipped in with a goal to round out the scoring. Christopher McVannan of Binghamton had 45 saves in the loss and Patrick Dennehy of Hilton stopped 13 of the 18 shots he faced in relief. Pete Borgosz led the way for the Vikings with a hat trick and an assist, while teammate Hunter Craig added a pair of goals. Jeff Smith took the win for the visitors, stopping 18 of the 22 shots he faced. 

Penalties were a big downfall for Broome, who amassed 53 PIM and went just 4-8 on the penalty kill. The Hornets were able to capitalized on one of three powerplay chances.

Up next for Broome is the 3rd Annual President's Cup against the Binghamton University Club team next Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the SUNY Broome Ice Center.
