Kyle Welsh begins his third year at the helm for SUNY Broome after taking over for Corey Behlen in 2015.  Coach Welsh played began his playing days with Vestal High School playing three years on varsity for the Golden Bears under Jeff Cornick and Craig Simmonds.  Welsh earned Section IV First Team Defensive, Scholar Athlete and Exceptional Senior awards while playing for the Golden Bears. Welsh graduated from Vestal in 2003 and attended SUNY Broome.  A two year starter and a captain on the SUNY Broome lacrosse team under Coach Ted Hust, the Hornets went further than any year before, making the programs first appearance to the NJCAA Region III final four, only to lose both years to the eventual national champions (Herkimer '05 and Onondaga '06).  The Hornets finished ranked #8 in the nation in 2005 and #9 in 2006.  He was named to the MSAC All-Conference Team, Region III All-Tournament Team in 2005, and Region III honorable mention in 2006. It was after his second year that he volunteered to be an assistant coach for his former team during the 2007 season.

Leaving Broome with an associates degree in LAS, coach Welsh then attended DII Belmont Abbey College, playing his junior and senior seasons under Jim Dietsch and Tony Smith.  Belmont reached the top 10 in the USILA coaches poll in both 2008 and 2009. The Crusaders won the NCAA DII Conference Carolina Championship upsetting Limestone in the finals. Welsh graduated from Belmont Abbey with a bachelors degree in sports management in 2010.
