Men's Soccer Hangs On For The Win

The men's soccer team topped Jefferson CC 3-2 in a Region III match played on campus at Alumni Field this afternoon. The Hornets went down 1-0 as Cannoneer Makeem Huggins scored off a failed clearance from the Hornets defense in the 25th minute of the game. Broome was able to bounce back right before the half when Joshua Wlostowski (Vestal, NY/Vestal) scored an overhead bicycle kicked from a Nathan Mansfield (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay-East Fishkill) throw in into the box, tying the game a 1-1. Suny Broome struck again in the 58th minute when Mansfield scored off a deflected shot by Brian Clark (Vestal, NY/Vestal), giving the Hornets a 2-1 lead. The Hornets would go on to score again in the 78th minute when Ryan Bunker (Kirkwood, NY/Susquehanna Valley) scored from a deflected pass by Christian Rosics (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) to give the Hornets a 3-1 lead. Jefferson would add one more goal in the late stages as Thomas Leech finished a bouncing ball just outside the box to bring the score to 3-2. Tyler Elliott (Vestal, NY/Vestal) stopped 10 shots for the host team while Treavor Hickok had 5 stops for the visitors.

The Hornets (6-3;2-2 MSAC) travel to Syracuse next Wednesday to take on the Lazers from Onondaga CC at 6:45 P.M.
