vs Hudson Valley

The men's soccer team defeated Hudson Valley CC 2-1 in OT in the first round of the 2019 Region III Men's Soccer Championships on Tuesday afternoon.  The Hornets (#7) earned the right to host the Vikings (#10) in the Quarterfinal match but will have to travel on Thursday afternoon to Utica and face Mohawk Valley CC (#2) in the Semifinals with the winner moving on to the District B Finals in Batavia on Sunday.

Broome hosted Hudson Valley back on September 29th with the match ending in a 0-0 tie after double overtime.  It was the visitors who opened the scoring with their first shot of the game in the 22nd minute before the Hornets responded in the 38th minute with a goal from Jonjayro Morocho, assist going to Dave Casimir.

At the end of regulation, with the score tied 1-1, both teams headed into overtime as they did back in September.  Casimir nearly scored for the hosts five minutes in but the Vikings keeper made a vital save, resulting in a corner for Broome.  Elliot Booth took the corner kick and Brandon Whitaker rose above everyone to power the header home and to take Broome to the next round.  Adam Burns had 4 saves in goal for the Hornets.
