Softball Splits In Home Opener

The softball team fell to Tompkins Cortland CC in game one 8-5 in 8 innings and cruised to a 14-1 win in game two Thursday afternoon at the BAGSAI Softball Complex. The Hornets fought back from a 3-0 deficit in the fifth to tie it 3-3 on doubles by Sierra Butler (Richfield Springs, NY/Richfield Springs Central), Desiree Parry (Owego, NY/Union-Endicott) and Mindy Fisher (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) and an Amanda Finch (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley) single. Broome took the lead in the sixth when Parry drove in Shelby Pettersen (Deposit, NY/Deposit)to take a 4–3 lead.  The Panthers tied it up at 4-4 going into the eighth but with two outs and no one on base, timely hits by the visitors and a few errors by the Hornets, TC3 took the 8–4 lead.  The Hornets fought back for a run in the bottom of the eighth but fell short and lost a heartbreaker 8–5.  Karisa Sheriff (Windsor, NY/Windsor) led the Hornets going 4-5 and an RBI and Pettersen went 3-4 with an RBI.

The Hornets came out strong in game two and never looked back.  Justina Ellis (Deposit, NY/Deposit)kept the Panthers off balanced scattering 8 hits over the game, striking out 7 and walked none. The Hornets were led by Fisher (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) 5–5 and 3 RBI's followed by Parry 2-4 and 2 RBI's including a 3-run homerun. Rheagan Fischette (North Rose, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) contributed by going 3-4 in the game. Sheriff was 7-10 with 4 RBI's and Fisher was 6-10 with 4 RBI's for the day.

The Hornets improved to 3-3 and travel to Troy, NY this Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader against Hudson Valley CC.
