Softball Drops Two In Extra Innings

The softball team lost both games to Finger Lakes CC in extra innings, game one went 9 innings and resulted in a 11-8 loss while game two was a 3-2 loss that took 8 innings.

In the first game Broome broke a 2-2 tie in the 3rd when Shelby Pettersen hit a 3 run homerun over the right center field fence.  Broome led off the bottom of the 7th with back to back singles by Mindy Fisher and Amanda Finch and were advanced by Samantha Osario's sacrafice bunt.  Fisher scored on Pettersen's ground ball to the infield to tie the game up and force extra innings.  Going into the 9th tied 7-7 and the international tie breaker in effect the Lakers turned a walk, two hits and an error
into a 4 run lead.  The Hornets were only able to get one back in the bottom of the 9th and lost 11-8. Pettersen was 3-5 with 6 RBI's for the Hornets. Taylor Laws was 2-4 with 3 RBI's for Finger Lakes including the sacrafice fly to center field to score the winning run in the top of the 9th.

In the second game the Lakers jumped out to a 1-0 in the bottom of the first and remained that way until the top of the 6th when Desiree Parry led off with a single and Karisa Sheriff doubled to put runners on second and third with no outs.  Mindy Fisher singled up the middle to tie the game at 1-1 and Finch's fielders choice scored Sheriff to give the Hornets a 2 -1 lead going in to the 7th. The Hornets failed to score in the top of the 8th and the Lakers worked it to bases loaded and 2 outs when Casidy Bosch drove a 2-2 pitch to rightcenter for the game winning hit.

The Hornets travel to Auburn, NY on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Cayuga CC starting at 3:00 p.m.
