Softball Drops First Game

The softball team fell to SUNY Delhi 7-5 in game one and 8-7 in game two on Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader played at the BAGSAI Softball Complex. The 3-week layoff from seeing live pitching showed at the plate to start the doubleheader. Jill Burns eventually connected on a ball that sailed over the center field fence to put the Hornets on the board in the bottom of the 3rd. The Broncos held a 3-1 lead going into the top of the 7th before a two-run homerun and two errors put them up 7-1. In the bottom of the 7th the Hornets rallied for 5 hits led by a two-run homerun by Cassidy Phillips and a two-run single by Burns but the rally came up short ending the game 7-5.  The Hornets were led by Phillips who was 3–4 with a HR and Burns who went 2–4 with a HR and 3 RBI's

In game two the bats came alive early with a lead off single by Cassidy Phillips and triple by Ashley Lomonaco down the right field line to drive in Phillips. Lomonaco took advantage of nobody at the plate and raced home for the 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Delhi answered back in the bottom of the 1st for 3runs highlighted by a two-run homerun. With the score tied 3–3 going in to the top of the 4th Lomonaco hit a single up the middle to drive in 2 runs then Desiree Parry hit a single to right-center that scored Lomonaco to give the Hornets a 7–3 lead. In the bottom of the 5th the Broncos put together four singles combined with two errors and tied the game at 7 all. With two outs in the bottom of the 6th Delhi hit a homerun to break the tie for the 8-7 win.

Broome falls to 0-4 and will travel to Dryden on Thursday for doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. against Tompkins Cortland CC.
