Softball Sweeps At Home

The softball team swept Cayuga CC at BAGSAI on Tuesday afternoon by scores of 7-3 and 12-11. In game one Cayuga jumped out to a 1–0 lead in the top of the first but Broome rallied in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead on a two-run homer by Ashley Lomonaco.  The Hornets added to their lead in the second when Cassidy Phillips hit a three-run shot to go up 5–1. Cayuga added two runs in the third but Broome held strong as they worked out of a bases loaded jam to close the inning. The host team added two more runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Jill Burns and Shelby Pettersen for the final 7-3 score.

Broome started off game two with a strong top of the first, putting together three hits with two outs to take a 3–0 lead on an RBI single by Burns and a two-RBI double by Pettersen. The Spartans had their own offensive outburst in the bottom of the inning with the first four batters getting on and scoring to take a 4-3 lead after one. In the top of the fourth the Hornets fought back with three runs, started by a lead-off double from Phillips to tie the game. With two outs in the fifth, Tia Birtch hit a three-run homer to put the Hornets up 9–6 only to see the Spartans come back and tie the game at 11-all in the sixth. In the seventh, Desiree Parry hit a single and scored from first on a double to the fence by Pettersen.  Delaney Johnson ended the game in relief in the bottom of the seventh with two strike outs to hang on for the 12-11 win.

Broome is at Corning CC this Thursday for a doubleheader against the Red Barons beginning at 3:00 p.m.
