Softball Team Loses Both In Corning

The softball team lost both games of their doubleheader in Corning on Thursday to the Red Barons by scores of 9-1 and 21-3. Corning dominated Broome in the first game putting nine runs on the board in the first four innings before the Hornets had their first base runner. Then facing the mercy rule in the top of the fifth Broome loaded the bases before Cassidy Phillips drove the ball to right field to score Amanda Finch from  third. The Red Barons held the Hornets to only two hits in game one, one from Phillips and one from Shelby Pettersen

Corning stayed hot in game two, putting up five runs in the top of the first but in the bottom of  the first the Hornets fought right back. Phillips led off the inning with a double and was driven in by Tia Birtch. Birtch scored on a sacrifice fly by Ashley Lomonaco and Desiree Parry capped off the scoring by sending one deep to left center for a solo homerun.  But once again the Hornets could only manage one other base runner when Parry hit a bloop-single to left center.  Corning put up twelve more hits and sixteen more runs for the final 21-3 score.

Broome returns to the road this Saturday for a doublheader against Monroe CC scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
