Big Innings Costly For Hornets

The Hornets dropped a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon in Troy, NY to Hudson Valley CC by scores of 13-6 and 12-3. Both games saw the visitors give up costly innings, in game one it was a six run first inning and in game two it was a seven run fifth inning. 

In the opener, Jolene Krom (Sidney, NY/Sidney) went 2-3 with an RBI, Hayley Knorr (Otego, NY/Unatego) was 2-4, Cassidy Phillips (Afton, NY/Afton) drove in 2 runs while going 1-3 and Katelyn Page (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley) doubled to right in three plate appearances and scored twice. Riley Smith (Bainbridge, NY/Bainbridge-Guilford) struck out seven Vikings' batters in the losing effort.

Game two saw Hudson Valley (2-4) get out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before the Hornets (0-6) tied it up in the second 3-3. The game remained close until the Vikings opened it up in the fifth with seven runs. Paige Finch (Kirkwood, NY/Susquehanna Valley) Miranda Groover (Susquehanna, PA/Susquehanna) and Phillips each doubled in the game. Alyssa Hovey (Bainbridge, NY/Bainbridge-Guilford) went 1-2 with an RBI and, Erin Page (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) and Monica Luke (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) each had a hit. Erin Page took the loss for the Hornets on the mound.

Broome will play their home opener against Tompkins Cortland CC this Thursday at BAGSAI with game one beginning at 3:00 P.M.
