The softball team dropped both games on Saturday against Monroe CC and split with Mohawk Valley on Sunday. Broome lost both games on Saturday to Monroe, losing game one 9-1, and game two 8-0. Miranda Groover (Susquehanna, PA/Susquehanna) and Jolene Krom (Sidney, NY/Sidney) led the Hornets with two hits apiece in the opener. Tori Thuman went 3-4 at the plate for the Tribunes, one of those hits went over the left-center fence.

Game two saw the Hornets struggle at the plate, gathering only one hit off the Tribunes' Larissa Brower. The lone hit belonged to lead-off hitter Ailnairis Belefanti (Curacao/Juan Pablo Duarte). Riley Smith (Bainbridge, NY/Bainbridge-Guilford) took the loss on the mound for both games.

Broome hosted Mohawk Valley on Sunday and lost game one to the Hawks, due in part to costly errors. Only two of the seven Hawks runs were earned, the four errors proved to be the difference in the game. Broome was led by Erin Page (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) with two hits, including a double.

In game two the Hornets held on to a slim 7-6 lead at the end of the fifth inning, followed by a scoreless sixth before they exploded for a ten-run seventh inning. The Hawks were able to get two runs back in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn't enough. Groover led that charge with a rare bases loaded in-the-park homerun. Every Hornet player going to the plate had at least one hit, Krom led the way with three hits. Katelyn Page (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna Valley), Cassidy Phillips (Afton, NY/Afton), Paige Finch (Kirkwood, NY/Susquehanna Valley) and Groover all had a two-hit game. Finch was outstanding at short, making several leaping and diving catches to keep the Hawks at bay. Smith took the loss in game one and earned the win for Broome in game two.

Up next is a 3:00 P.M. doubleheader on Tuesday with Columbia-Greene in Hudson, NY.
