The Hornets traveled to Syracuse for a MSAC doubleheader with Onondaga CC on Saturday and lost the opener 6-4, before taking game two from the Lazers 5-3. In the opener the Hornets (14-8) found themselves on the wrong side of a 4-0 game after just one inning of play and again after the completion of two innings, 5-2. Over the next five innings Broome settled in and went to work, holding the Lazers (13-7) to just one more run while scoring two of their own, but the 4-run first inning proved costly for the visitors. Mikayla Garbarino, Alea Tiffany, Taylor Voorhis, Mackensie Gravelin and Alyssa Hovey each had a hit in the MSAC game. Kylee Warner struck out six and walked three for the Hornets.
Game two saw Onondaga get on the board in the first inning again, this time a lone run. Broome plated two runs in the second and held a 2-1 lead over the next two innings before Onondaga would tie it up at two in the top of the fifth. Broome answered back in the bottom of the frame with three more runs to take the lead for good. The Lazers picked up another run in the seventh inning for the final 5-3 score. Broome held Onondaga in check with several solid defensive plays, including a couple well executed doubleplays, and a throw to home by center fielder Tiffany for a big out. Tiffany also had a couple of hits in the game, one of them a double while teammates Paige Finch, Madison Lapinski, Voorhis, Gravelin and Hovey all picked up a hit in the contest. Warner notched her 14th win of the season, striking out two and walking two.
Broome completed the regular season with a 14-8 record and now awaits the seeding of the top eight teams in Region III for the 2018 Region III Division III Softball Championships begining this Tuesday.
