Softball Rebounds With A Sweep In Their Home Opener

Broome 3rd baseman throwing runner out at 1st base
vs Mohawk Valley

Two days after being swept in Herkimer, the Hornets responded with a sweep of their own on Thursday, defeating Mohawk Valley CC by scores of 4-3 in game one and 14-5 in game two.  The Hawks scored a run in each of the first three innings for a 3-0 lead going into the fourth.  The Hornets picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3.  Neither team was able to plate a run in the sixth.  Mikayla Garbarino and Keyairra Woolfolk started off the seventh with back-to-back singles before Abby Mancini's hard hit grounder drove in the winning run to end the game.  Seven players in all had hits in game one led by Garbarino with three.  Woolfolk, Mancini (triple), Alea Tiffany, Madison Lapinski (double), Taylor Voorhis and Mckenna Wheaton all had one hit apiece in the contest.

Game two saw Broome put up runs in all five innings, none bigger than the 6-run fifth.  The balanced effort had eight players pick up hits in the game including a home run from Garbarino, and doubles from Tiffany, Lapinski, Voorhis and Wheaton.  Lapinski led the way with 4 RBIs and went 3-4 from the plate.  Woolfolk picked up her first two wins in a Hornet uniform.

Broome will host the Erie Kats this Sunday at 1:00 P.M. and 3:00 P.M. at the BAGSAI Sports Complex in another Region III contest.
