Hornets Take Two In Watertown

Broome 2nd baseman turning double play
@ Jefferson

The Hornets defeated Jefferson CC in Watertown on Thursday afternoon, sweeping the Cannoneers by scores of 13-1 and 14-0.  Broome got on the board in the top of the first inning to start game one, courtesy of an Alea Tiffany single that drove in Mikayla Garbarino for the 1-0 lead.  Jefferson responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie it up at 1-1, it was all Hornets from that point forward.  Broome put up eight runs in the top of the second and four more in the top of the fifth while holding Jefferson scoreless the rest of the way.  Laurel Pernesky-Currier, Garbarino and Madison Lapinski led the way with three hits each and Abby Mancini chipped in with a team-high three RBIs.

Keyairra Woolfolk held the Cannoneers scoreless while allowing just two hits to pick up her second win of the day.  After giving up one run in the first inning of game one, Woolfolk pitched eight consecutive innings without giving up a run, walked two and struck out two, helping Broome improve to 11-9 in Region III play and 6-4 in MSAC.  McKenna Wheaton picked up three hits in the contest including her fifth home run of the year and two doubles while driving in five runs.  Four other Hornets had two hits each, they were Pernesky-Currier, Mancini, Garbarino and Tiffany.

Broome will host Niagara County CC on Saturday at BAGSAI before traveling to Batavia on Sunday to face Genesee CC, both doubleheaders are scheduled for a 1:00 P.M. start.
