Softball Takes Opener, Falls Short In Nightcap

The Hornets took game one, 9-2, against SUNY Adirondack on Thursday before coming up short in a 5-4 loss at BAGSAI in the second game.

Broome got out to an early lead in the opener and never looked back, scoring all nine runs in the first three innings. Five Hornets logged multiple hits in the game led by Leah Carlini with three hits, two singles and a triple. Brianna Ramstine, Brooke Ladd and Kaitlyn Andrews followed with two hits apiece including doubles off the bats of Ramstine and Ladd. Jacqualine Bigelow, Jenna Gaisford and Aryn Bicksler contributed with one single each. Gaisford earned the win on the pitching plate for Broome, she gave up two runs on six hits while striking out a collegiate best eleven.

The second game of the afternoon saw the Hornets take a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning before giving up three runs in the fifth to the Timberwolves, a lead the visitors would not give up. Broome threatened in the seventh but could only manage one run. Ladd led the Hornets  with three hits, two singles and a double. Ramstine hit her sixth homerun of the year for her only hit in the game and Gaisford hit a double for her only hit. Keira Warwick and Carlini were the only other Hornets with a hit, both hit singles. Warwick went five innings in the circle, giving up five runs on seven hits while striking out seven.

The afternoon also recognized second year players Jessica Baron, Jacqualine Bigelow and Marrissa Rogers for their contributions to the program over the last two years.

Broome returns to BAGSAI on Monday for a doubleheader against Jefferson CC with game times of 3:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M.
