The women's basketball team opened up the 2018 season with a 51-40 win over Schenectady County CC on the road Thursday night. Broome jumped out to an early lead in the contest and never trailed despite Schenectady's comeback bid in the 3rd quarter, coming to within two points at the end of three, 35-33. The 4th quarter charge was led by Kasey Krewson, scoring all 5 of her points in the last frame as the Hornets outscored the Royals 16-7. Broome was able to hold the host team to under 10 points in three out of the four quarters to earn the first win of the year.
The balanced effort on both ends of the ball was led by Isabella LoVuolo and Julianna Mushalla with 18 and 10 points respectively, Mushalla also led in assists and steals with 5 in each category. Brenna Gioffe and LoVuolo grabbed 7 boards apiece while Krewson picked up 6 to go with her 5 points, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Rounding out the scoring for the visitors were Anna Hotalen with 6 points, Miya Ritchie with 5 points and Keyairra Woolfolk with 3 points.
Broome is back on the road again Saturday and Sunday for the Crossover Classic in Jamestown where they will face Jamestown CC on Saturday and Genesee CC on Sunday, tipoff for both is scheduled for 3:00 P.M.
