Hornets Open In Crossover Classic

The Hornets fell to Jamestown CC 75-66 on Saturday and again on Sunday, this time to Genesee CC 78-66 in the Crossover Classic, hosted by Corning CC this year.

Against Jamestown on Saturday, Broome trailed 19-13 at the end of the first quarter and 40-23 going onto halftime.  The Hornets came out in the third quarter and put up 29 points, 6 more than the first and second quarter combined, making it a three point game at the end of the third.  The Hornets were able to make it a one point game early in the fourth before the Jayhawks were able to pull away for the win.  Miya Ritchie came off the bench to lead Broome scorers with 19 points, followed by Vivian Ladd and Anna Hotalen with 15 points apiece.  Ritchie added 4 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks to her totals, Ladd led all players with 8 assists, 5 steals and 5 blocks, and Hotalen picked up where she left off last year by posting a double-double, adding 12 boards to her 15 points.

Genesee outscored Broome in all four quarters on Sunday for the win.  Both teams were consistent in their scoring, the Cougars put up 20 points in the first and last quarter, 19 points in the middle two while the Hornets put up 16 points in the first and last quarter, 17 points in the middle two.  Ritchie again led in scoring with 23 points and also added 4 steals and 3 assists to her lines.  Hotalen continued with her customary double-double, dropping 15 points and grabbing 17 rebounds.  Ladd, Calista Smith and Ashley Barnhart each contributed in the scoring column with 7 points each.  Smith dished out 4 assists, Ladd had 5 steals and Barnhart had 8 boards to add to their totals.

Up next is Broome's third straight Division II opponent, the game taking place in Sanborn on Saturday afternoon against Niagara County CC beginning at 1:00 P.M.
