4th Quarter Lifts Hornets To Win At Home

The women's basketball team won their second consecutive game at home Thursday evening, topping Northampton CC 64-55 in a non-conference matchup played in the Baldwin Gymnasium.  The Hornets held the Spartans to just 5 first quarter points before giving up 21 second quarter points to the visitors and a 3 point halftime lead.  Broome trailed 41-40 after three quarters of play, enter Daisy Allen off the bench, the freshman from Marathon came off the bench to spark the home team and ignite the crowd with 10 fourth quarter points, created by a solid defensive effort by the Hornets. 

Broome turned in a well rounded game which saw contributions come in many different forms but none bigger than Vivian Ladd's 17 points, 8 boards, 7 assists, 7 steals and 9 blocks.  Anna Hotalen turned in a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, Miya Ritchie added 13 points and 3 assists, and Calista Smith chipped in with 6 points and 3 assists.  Trinity Purdy added 4 points in the contest but her biggest contribution came on the defensive side of the ball, creating several turnovers in the crucial fourth quarter.  Northampton's Briona McClain led all scorers with 27 points.

The Hornets improved to 3-8 overall; 2-4 Region III while the Spartans fell to 4-6 overall; 2-1 Region XIX.  Broome will return after the winter break on January 9th for a MSAC matchup against Finger Lakes CC at 5:30 P.M. in the Baldwin Gymnasium.
