Women's Soccer Ends In 1-1 Tie

The women's soccer team ended in a 1-1 tie against SUNY ESF tonight in Syracuse in a non-conference match. Both teams played a highly spirited contest looking for opportunities in their attacking ends. In the 18th minute the Mighty Oaks Heather Carl found the back of the net resulting from a free kick awarded about 25 yards from the Hornets net. Carl lofted a ball toward the back of the goal just out of the reach of Hornets net minder Erinn Catlin (VanEtten, NY/Spencer-VanEtten).  Less than 2 minutes later in the 20th minute, Rosemary Zelenyak (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) slotted a ball to leading scorer Kaelyn Michitti (Binghamton, NY/Seton Catholic) that was buried in the far netting for the tying goal past ESF keeper Kiki Hilmer. As hard as both teams tried neither could capitalize on the opportunities  they had in the second half. The Hornets held a slight edge in shots (11-10) and were tied at 2 apiece in corners against the much improved Mighty Oaks.

The Hornets are next in action this Sunday at 12:00 P.M. at home against Clinton CC.
