Women Drop Season Opener In Double OT

The women's soccer team dropped their season opener in Canandaigua, NY to Finger Lakes CC on Wednesday afternoon, 2-3 in double OT.  SUNY Broome, currently ranked #1 in the latest NJCAA poll, got on the board first when freshman Jordan McGinnis (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) scored the first goal. The Lakers, Riley Sanger, tied it up late in the first half to send both teams into halftime tied 1-1.
 
The Hornets took the lead at the 70:39 mark in the second half after another freshman, McKenna Williams (Chenango Forks, NY/Chenango Forks), found the back of the net.  Much like the first half, the Lakers scored late in the half to tie the game 2-2 at the end of regulation.  Goalkeepers Jolene Krom (Sidney, NY/Sidney) and Isabella Prest (FLCC), kept their respective teams alive in the first overtime to send the game into a second overtime.  Finger Lakes decided the game in the 101st minute on Sanger's second goal of the game.  
 
Krom had 9 saves for the visitors while her counterpart had 10 saves in goal. Mackensie Gravelin (Sidney, NY/Sidney) contributed to the Hornets offense with 2 assists in the two-plus hour match. Broome dominated in both shots, 38-10, and corners 8-2 in the loss.
 
Broome will go on the road again this Saturday for a 1:00 P.M. match in Holyoke, MA against Holyoke CC.
