Women Pick Up Third Shutout

The women's soccer team defeated Holyoke CC, 5-0 on Sunday afternoon in a match played on Alumni Field.  The Hornets improved to 4-0 on the season, with three of those wins coming by way of a shutout.  Broome started the scoring in the 17th minute when Nicole Madison beat the last defender on a breakaway to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead over the Cougars from Massachusetts.  In the 34th minute, Mackensie Gravelin collected a ball off a corner kick by Alyssa Waibel at the 20 yard line and beat Cougar keeper  Emily Toro-Mattson with a rocket to the upper right corner of the goal.  Kayla Kromelbein received a through ball from Katelynn Griffiths and bested the goalie on a shot to the corner to finish the first half scoring.

The second half scoring saw Griffiths deliver another perfect assist to Linsey Howell who beat the keeper for the 4-0 lead.  Scoring was completed in the 76th minute when Hannah Faulkner finished a through ball by Howell for the final goal of the match.  Paige Finch worked 59 minutes in net for the win and Kara Knickerbocker finished the last 31 minutes in relief of Finch.  Broome dominated Holyoke in shots on goal 19-3 and held a 3-0 advantage in corners.
 
The Hornets are on the road Wednesday in Utica for a 4:00 P.M. match against Mohawk Valley CC.
