Two Late Goals Not Enough In Non-Conference Match

Broome player stopping opponent
vs SUNY ESF

The women's soccer team hosted SUNY ESF on Sunday in a non-conference matchup and fell to the Mighty Oaks 4-2 at Alumni Field.  The Hornets battled throughout the match but it was the Mighty Oaks that netted the first ball, 36 minutes into the contest for a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

The second half was more of the same with the visitors going up 3-0.  Broome finally got on the board in the 65th minute when Hannah Faulkner scooped up a rebound and finished in the far netting to bring the Hornets within two goals.  In the 85th minute Faulkner received  a through ball from Luccia Martucci, got a quick turn and buried the ball in the back of the net from 19 yards out bringing the Hornets to within one goal.  Looking for the equalizer and sending several players forward, Broome got caught and gave up a breakaway to the Mighty Oaks for the final score.  Broome dropped to 4-3 overall and remain 1-1 in the MSAC while SUNY ESF remained undefeated but gave up the first goals of the season to an opponent in Sunday's contest.

Next up for the Hornets is a MSAC game on the road in Syracuse against the Lazers of Onondaga CC on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 4:00 P.M.
