Broome defeated Tompkins Cortland on Thursday afternoon in Dryden, 5-0, in the semi-final of the District B Championship, earning a spot in this Sunday's final against Herkimer College. The Hornets (#3) started the scoring in the 4th minute when Hannah Faulkner took a through ball from defensive back Olivia Pilotti to score the winning goal. Katelynn Griffiths had two goals in the contest, one at 24:49 and the other at 31:09 to cement the victory. Kayla Kromelbein added a goal at 31:09 for a 4-0 halftime lead. Broome made the most of their shots on goal against the Panthers (#11), scoring on 4 of their 5 shots. Chloe Brauer added a goal at 51:43 in the second half for the final 5-0 tally.
The Hornets defense once again rose to the challenge, allowing Tompkins Cortland only 4 shots in the match. Thursday's contest marked the 8th shutout of the season for Broome.
The Hornets will take their 13-3 record to Herkimer, NY on Sunday at noon and face the Herkimer Generals (#2), also a 5-0 winner on Thursday night in their semi-final game against Finger Lakes (#7). Both teams will be battling for a spot in the NJCAA Division III Women's Soccer National Championship held at Tompkins Cortland CC, November 14th - 17th.
