Mott And Secord Medal In Mercer Tournament

Maria Mott and Molly Secord both earned medals for their efforts in the three day Mercer Invitational Tournament played in Princeton Junction, New Jersey this past weekend.

Final Draw Singles:

2. Marykathryn Healy (Oxford CC) def. Maria Mott (Broome) 6-2 6-3
3. Kelsey Sattler (Oxford CC) def. Molly Secord (Broome) 6-1 6-4

Consolation Draw Singles:

1. Daji O'Geen (Broome) def. Allison Lutz (Illinois Valley) 6-3 6-0
5. Brittany Angier (Suffolk) def. Olivia Borihane (Broome) 7-5 6-4

Consolation Doubles Draw:

1. O'Geen/Mott (Broome) def. Hannah Warwick/Savannah Weitzel (Illinois Valley) 6-4 6-0
3. Alana Jones/Michele Sparrow (Illinois Valley) def. Borihane/Senate (Broome) 6-4 6-1

In her singles final Mott won more games against Healy than any other player in the draw. Secord lost her final as well in a very close second set. She too, won more games against her opponent than any other player in the draw. Both Mott and Secord earned a medal for their effort.

O'Geen went on to dominate the consolation draw, after losing to the eventual champion, only dropping three games in the final. Borihane lost to the eventual champion in the fifth singles flight and went on to battle in the consolation final, losing a very close match that could have gone either way. Borihane also paired with her partner Stephanie Senat to play in the consolation final, keeping it close in the first set before losing the second set 6-1.

The Hornets return home for a 4:00 p.m. tennis match against Mohawk Valley CC this Wednesday on the SUNY Broome Tennis Courts.
