Region III Champs!

The women's tennis team are the 2016 NJCAA Region III champions and are headed back to Peachtree City, GA for the NJCAA Division III Women's Tennis National Championships. The championships are being held Thursday, October 20th through Saturday, October 22nd at the Peachtree City Tennis Center. The Hornets needed to win three out of the five singles in the finals to clinch the title and they won all five on Saturday at Drumlin's Tennis Center in Syracuse, NY.  

Singles:

1. Daji O'Geen (Broome) def. Kim Roberts (MVCC) 6-1 6-3
2. Maria Mott (Broome) def. Autumn Fallon (MVCC) 6-2 6-3
3. Molly Secord (Broome) def. Taylor Scalzo (MVCC) 6-3 6-2
4. Samantha Tassey (Broome) def. Madelynn Badger (MVCC) 7-5 6-4
5. Olivia Borihane (Broome) def. Yulia Savillo (MVCC) 6-2 6-3

 

Doubles:

1. O'Geen/Mott (Broome) def. Kim Roberts/Autumn Fallon 7-5, 6-0
2. Secord/Tassey (Broome) def. Taylor Salzo/Madelynn Badger 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (0)

At first doubles on Friday, a slow start led to a 4-1 deficit for Broome but O'Geen and Mott quickly turned the tide to win the next 6 out of 7 games to capture the first set and blanked Mohawk in the second to win the Region III title.  At second doubles Secord and Tassey breezed through the first set 6-1 only to lose the second 1-6 and quickly went down 5-1 in the third set.  Down 4 match points the duo pulled the match back to 5-5 before holding serve and grabbing the lead and Region III title.

Mott, Secord and Tassey all remain undefeated in Region III for singles and doubles. This will be Broome's fifth straight trip to the Nationals and their eighth in the last ten seasons.
