Ladies Tied For 5th At The NJCAA Tennis Championships

The Hornets tied for 5th place at the 2017 NJCAA Tennis Championships in Peachtree City, GA played October 19th - 21st.  In the final day of competition SUNY Broome was in 7 of the 9 consolation finals. 

At No.1 Madison Murphy started out with the lead early in the match and was able to hang on for the victory.  No.3 Chelsea Deuel, No.4 Emily Whitaker and, No.5 Kara Shanks all fell behind early in the match but turned it around for a win in their consolation finals.

The No.2 doubles' team of Deuel and Whitaker were down 8-7 but came back to tie it at 8-8 and continued their momentum to win the tiebreak.

1st Singles:  Warwick (Illinois Valley) def. Shyanne Daye (Broome) 8-5

2nd Singles:  Madison Murphy (Broome) def. Abella (Elgin CC) 8-5

3rd Singles:  Chelsea Deuel (Broome) def. Kircher (Rowan) 8-6

4th Singles:  Emily Whitaker (Broome) def. Pitts (Suffolk CC) 8-5

5th Singles:  Kara Shanks (Broome) def. Pinto (Onondaga) 9-7

6th Singles:  Browning (Illinois Valley) def. Mollie Elder (8-1)

2nd Doubles:  Deuel/Whitaker (Broome) def. Pitts/Hoffman (Suffolk CC) 9-8 (7-4)
