Tennis Places Third At 2019 NJCAA DIII Women's Tennis Championship

The women's tennis team finished in the third spot at the 2019 NJCAA DIII Women's Tennis Championships held in Peachtree City, Georgia on November 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  In day one of the tournament, #2 Colleen Samsel, #3 Anika Mott, #4 Rose Kane, and #5 Jenna Yezzi all won their single's quarterfinal matches.  In doubles play, #1 Brianna Harmon/Samsel, #2 Mott/Kane, and #3 Yezzi/Breona Bogart all advanced to the semifinals. 
 

Singles Quarterfinal: 

1. Cody Lu (Oxford) def. Harmon (Broome) 6-1, 6-0
2. Samsel (Broome) def. Amber Kantenwein (Ocean) 6-3, 6-2
3. Mott (Broome) def. Olivia Fava (FIT) 6-1, 6-2
4. Kane (Broome) def. Isabel Lueck (IVCC) 6-0, 6-4
5. Yezzi (Broome) def. Jillian Buscio (Ocean) 6-1, 6-1
6. Morgan Putvinski (Northampton) def. Bogart (Broome) 6-1, 6-0
 
Doubles Quarterfinal:
 
1. Harmon/Samsel (Broome) def. Michelle Windy/Nena Perry (IVCC) 6-1, 6-3
2. Mott/Kane (Broome) def. Paige Prombo/Sonia Randhana (DuPage) 6-0, 6-0
3. Yezzi/Bogart (Broome) def. Jazmine Cruz-Barrera/Sydney Florez (Camden) 6-1, 6-3
 
The second day of the tournament, in the main draw semifinal, #3 Mott won a very close match to advance to the national final.  At #2 Samsel held a 4-1 lead in the second set against the #2 seed of the tournament but couldn't hang on and lost in two sets.  Yezzi put up a great fight in a tough three set loss.  In consolation play, #1 Harmon and #6 Bogart both won their semifinal matches to advance to the consolation final.

In the final day of the tournament Harmon won her final match as a junior college competitor by winning her consolation bracket.  #3 Mott dropped her final  but earned Second Team All-American status. Prior to her second place finish in singles, she partnered with Kane to defeat Ocean County CC and place 3rd in the nation at #2 doubles.  At #3 doubles, the team of Yezzi and Bogart also placed 3rd in the nation after defeating Illinois Valley CC.
