Volleyball lost their home opener Wednesday night in the West Gymnasium against Corning CC 3-2 in a tight, five set match. The Hornets came out strong during the first set and battled back and forth with the Red Barons to reach the fifth set. Set scores were: 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 16-25, 9-15.
Kaitlin Manley (Willet, NY/Cincinnatus) contributed 11 kills and Rayna Pouliot (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga) had 10 kills to lead the offense for Broome. Manley also led the team in blocks with 7. Taylor Hessler (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) totaled 24 assists and Lauren Carpenter (Vestal, NY/Maine-Endwell) had 4 aces. Defensively the Hornets had a strong showing with four players tallying up double digit digs, led by Carpenter with 43, Pouliot with 24 and Lyndsay Powell (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) had 18, and Hessler chipped in with 10.
Broome (1-1) is off until next Wednesday when the host Onondaga CC at 6:00 P.M. in the West Gym.
