Volleyball Goes 2-1 In Corning POD

The volleyball team went 2-1 at the Corning POD tournament on Saturday, defeating North Country CC 3-0, SUNY Adirondack 3-2, and falling to Hudson Valley CC 3-2.   
 
Broome (9-6) started off the day with a win over North Country 3-0 with set scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-19.  Kaitlin Manley (Willet, NY/Cincinnatus) led the team with 15 kills and 4 blocks, while Hannah Brown (Lisle, NY/Central Baptist) and Rayna Pouliot (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga) contributed 5 kills a piece.  Taylor Hessler (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) had 25 assists and 2 aces, and Lauren Carpenter (Vestal, NY/Maine-Endwell) had 21 digs.
 
The Hornets lost their second match of the day to Hudson Valley in a close 5 set match, 2-3 with set scores of 25-17, 23-25, 22-25, 25-16, 12-15.  Hessler had 41 assists and 2 aces and Manley had 23 kills, 5 blocks and 4 aces.  Carpenter led in digs with 28 while Pouliot had 22 and Ni'esa Davidson (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) had 23.
 
The final match of the day was a tight 5 set win over Adirondack, 3-2 with set scores of 26-24, 18-25, 22-25, 25-23, 16-14.  Hessler had a season high of 51 assists, Manley had 29 kills and Pouliot had 12.  Carpenter had 39 digs, Davidson had 26 and Pouliot had 26 while Manley led the team in blocks with 17.
 
Broome travels to Canandaigua on Wednesday for a MSAC match against Finger Lakes CC beginning at 6:00 P.M.
