Volleyball Splits At Cara Bryant Tournament

The volleyball team split at the Cara Bryant Tournament played in Syracuse on Friday and Saturday, hosted by Onondaga CC.  On Friday, the Hornets (13-11) began pool play against Onondaga and Monroe CC on Friday.  Broome took the first set 25-21 before dropping the next two to the Lazers 21-25 and 8-15.  Hannah Brown (Lisle, NY/Central Baptist) led the team with the highest hitting percentage at .778, with 7 kills for 9 attempts with 0 errors.  Kaitlin Manley (Willet, NY/Cincinnatus) contributed 10 kills and 7 blocks,  Taylor Hessler (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) added 25 assists and Rayna Pouliot (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga) led the offense with 18 digs.
 
The second match was a 2-1 loss to Monroe CC with set scores 25-23, 24-26, 3-15.  Manley had 15 kills and 4 blocks, Hessler had 22 assists and, Lauren Carpenter (Vestal, NY/Maine-Endwell) had 19 digs and Ni'esa Davidson (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) had 13.
 
On Saturday Broome traveled back to Syracuse to wrap up pool play with two more matches.  The first match was a 2-0 loss to Jefferson with set scores 21-25, 15-25.
 
The second match was a 2-1 win against Genesee CC with set scores of 27-25, 15-25, 15-13.  Manley had 17 kills and 4 blocks, Brown added 5 kills and 5 blocks, Hessler has 32 assists and,  Carpenter and Pouliot both contributed 10 digs apiece.  The Hornets ended pool play seeded 5th, making it into the playoffs.
 
Broome faced 4th seed Monroe in the quarterfinal and fought hard to win their match 2-0 with set scores of 25-20, 25-21.  Manley had 13 kills and 8 blocks, Carpenter and Pouliot both had 11 digs a piece, and Hessler chipped in with 23 assists.   
 
In the semifinal match, the Hornets again faced the Lazers and fell 2-0 by set scores of 18-25, 14-25.
 
At the conclusion of the tournament, sophomore middle hitter, Manley, was named to the All-Tournament Team. Broome is off now until next Saturday when they return to POD play in Rochester, hosted by Monroe CC.
