Men Start Season Strong With Record-Setting Performances

The men's track and field team traveled to SUNY Geneseo over the weekend and collected numerous outstanding individual performances.

The team saw four members post results that already qualified them for the 2024 National Championships, five members who earned Region III Championship qualifying results, three members achieve top-15 finishes, and two new school records get set. 

David Akulis earned 5th place in the high jump with 1.78 meters. This mark tied the school record and qualified Akulis for the Regional and National Championships later this season.

Dandre James had a busy day, running the 100 meter in 12.09 seconds which earned him a Regionals qualification, running the 200 meter in 25.67 seconds, placing 8th overall in the long jump at 6.16 meters which met the Regional and National Championships qualification standards, and finishing 5th place overall in the triple jump at 12.68 meters which also met the Regional and National qualification standards. 

Thomas Eccleston ran the 110 meter hurdles in 17.68 seconds, which allowed him to qualify for the Regional and National Championships. John Miller reached 30.90 meters in the discus and qualified for the Region III Championships. He also reached 7.83 meters on the shot put and 27.18 meters on the javelin throw. 

Rounding it out for the men, Connor Vredenburgh posted two new school records over the weekend. He earned 33.18 meters on the discus, which is a new school record and meets the Regional qualification standard. He also reached 10.63 meters on the shot put to qualify for Regionals. Vredenburgh placed 14th overall in the javelin throw with a measurement of 37.32 meters, which is another new school record and qualifies him for the Regional and National Championships. 

The team will next participate in the Utica University Invitational on Saturday, April 6th.
