Corning Bats Prove Too Much For Broome

Region III Semifinal

The softball team fell to Corning CC on Wednesday night in the Region III B Semifinal played under the lights in Canandaigua by a score of 18-2.  The game, originally scheduled for Tuesday, and postponed until Wednesday due to rains, almost didn't take place.  The Red Barons coach Stacy Johnson, AD Isaac Bushey, staff and team worked all day Tuesday and most of the day Wednesday to get the field ready for the 4:00 P.M. game but in the end both teams agreed Mother Nature would come out on top in that game.  Finger Lakes CC stepped up to the plate and agreed to allow Corning to host the Region III B Semifinal on their newly constructed turf field beginning at 7:30 P.M. and, as luck would have it, the rains stopped at game time.

Broome took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Laurel Pernesky-Currier laced a double to the left field wall, moved to third on a sacrafice bunt by Abby Mancini and crossed the plate on Mikayla Garbarino's ground out.  Corning responded with back-to-back triples from Danielle Dille and Jess Vidal to lead off the bottom of the inning enroute to a five run first.  The Red Barons' bats continued, collecting 17 more hits in the semifinal game.  The Hornets picked up eight hits led by Pernesky-Currier with a double to go with her triple, and Taylor Voorhis with a single and a triple.

Broome finished the year with a 17-12 Region III record and made their second straight playoff appearance.
